MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Shelby County Health Department has found mosquitoes infected with the West Nile Virus inside county limits.

The find was in the 38116 area code.

It’s a good idea to be sure stale water cannot pool up in your yard. You can prevent this by emptying buckets and other items that collect water.

The Health Department will conduct mosquito control activities, including truck-mounted spraying (adulticiding) of EPA-approved insecticides, weather permitting*, in portions of specific ZIP codes according to the following schedule:

Monday, June 6th

8:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.

ZIP Codes: 38116, 38118, 38130, 38131, 38132

Tuesday, June 7th

8:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.

ZIP Codes: 38127, 38053

Wednesday, June 8th

8:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.

ZIP Codes: 38116, 38109

Thursday, June 9th

8:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.

ZIP Codes: 38116, 38118

Truck mounted spraying only effectively kills adult mosquitoes that are currently flying at the time the insecticide is released.

You are highly encouraged to be vigilant as it relates to controlling mosquito populations around their homes and businesses.
