Driver of tractor-trailer arrested, charged in deadly hit and run

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman is dead following a hit-and-run accident involving a tractor-trailer at Kirby and Winchester.

The wreck happened around 1 p.m. Friday.

According to police, a woman was struck by the 18-wheeler before being struck by a second vehicle.

The Memphis Police Department has arrested 54-year-old Billie Saffold in connection with the fatal hit and run.

Saffold, who has been identified has the driver of the 18-wheeler, had fled the scene after the accident, but was detained by police later in the day.

Saffold has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death and failure to render aid. The Memphis Police Department has taken possession of the 18-wheeler.

The victim has not been identified at this time.
