Teen injured after shooting near Airways, Ketchum

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One person was rushed to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital after a shooting early Wednesday morning.

Memphis police said first responders were called to the Shell gas station at the corner of Airways and Ketchum around 4:30 a.m. and found a victim who had been shot in the leg.

The victim’s mother told WREG’s Melissa Moon that her son was supposed to stay at a friend’s home, but decided to walk home early Wednesday morning.

The 17-year-old told officers he approached a man as he was putting air in his tires. He was going to ask him for directions, but startled the man, who then pulled out a gun and shot him.

However, that man told investigators he only pulled his gun after he was was shot in the elbow by the teen.

A witness who called 911 told police he saw someone running behind the teen and shooting at him.

Both individuals that were shot are expected to be okay.
