Neighbors fed up with violent crime after shooting in South Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police say an overnight shooting in South Memphis has left one person injured.

The shooting happened at a home on West Silver Street near Menager Road. Police say a 40-year-old man was shot and taken to the hospital in critical condition.

At this time, Memphis Police have not released any suspect information.

Neighbors say the investigation stretched on for hours. The crime is causing those like Nicholas Foster, who have lived nearby for years, to increasingly become more fed up.

“I’ve been saying over here since 2018,” he said. “Oh yeah, most definitely I’m tired of it. I’m tired of it. It’s not just happening over here, it’s happening in other places too.”

Nicholas says his nieces and nephews also call the neighborhood home.

“I don’t like it, because there are children over here,” he said.

Neighbors say in addition to children living in this community, there are also elders and a church nearby. Neighbors are curious as to why the victim was met with foul play.

“It’s not worth losing your life, it’s not worth the jail time, because you’re going to lose your freedom,” Nicholas said.
