(Memphis) A 13-year-old is now charged with second degree murder in the shooting death of his sister.

The 10-year-old was shot in the head April 21, she died a short time later.

The shooting happened at the family home in the 4000 block of Orleans in the Whitehaven area.

The teen was already charged with felony reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and tampering with or fabricating evidence.

People who live near the kids say they were home alone, and this isn’t the first time the 13-year-old fired a gun from his home.

Linda Wooders lives across the street from where the shooting happened, and said it’s been a sad few weeks on their street.

“You know my heart goes out to the family. You know any time you lose a kid. And the son. He really need help. I think he has an illness inside his head.”

Wooders added, “He’s 13. That’s sad. He’s supposed to be getting ready for summer, going to the pool and shooting ball. But he’s locked up. He needs help. and someone needs to give him help.”

Court officials say police have previously arrested the teen for shoplifting and assault.

WREG also uncovered this is the fourth time police responded to the family home in the past year.

Neighbors say one time, he shot out car windows in the past. And they’ve seen other kids acting up.

No word yet on whether or not the boy’s parents will face charges as well.
