GlaxoSmithKline closing Memphis facility, laying off 159

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis health care and vaccine company filed notice with the state that it is closing effective June 20.

The closure of the GlaxoSmithKline facility will result in the loss of 159 jobs.

The company, located at 2149 Harbor Avenue in Memphis, had given notice of its intentions in 2018.

GSK sent WREG-TV the following statement:

In 2018, GSK made the difficult decision to cease operations at our site in Memphis, Tennessee. At the time, of the announcement, we advised employees that operations would be phased out of Memphis by mid-2021. Last month we filed official paperwork with the Mayor of Memphis as part of our obligation to permanently close the site.

Whenever we identify the need for changes that impact the future of any of our sites and employees, we take great care to communicate these changes thoughtfully and provide support to employees.
