(Memphis 9/21/2009) From a West Memphis police dash camera you can see where the pursuit of 22-year-old Maurice Jefferson began.
Police say the West Memphis patrol officers noticed Jefferson was driving recklessly, turned on their blue lights and tried to pull him over.
That's when police say Jefferson took off, "He was going real fast. you can see from the patrol video or patrol car is not keeping up with."
In fact, police say Jefferson was drunk and was driving at least 70 miles an hour when he out ran the patrol car and crashed his suv into the living room of this house.
On the dash cam tape, you can see the patrol officer get out of his car with his weapon in his hand and head toward Jefferson's vehicle.
Jefferson was found unconscious in the back seat. A 15-year-old and 10-year-old asleep in the front of the home were hit by debris and rushed to the hospital.
Carl Young, who lives just across the street also saw the car seconds earlier come through his yard.
Deep tire marks can still be seen in his grass.
He says he's very lucky the car missed his home,
"He probably couldn have went round there and still went through my house."
the children in the home were treated at the hospital and released.
Captain Don Oaks says in this situation, the officer involved in the chase did everything right and followed the department's pursuit policy to the letter, "We believe the suspect's vehicle was the only vehicle seen in our video. There was no other traffic. So I you are going to have a pursuit at 5am on a Sunday this is about as safe a time as you can have it."
At least for the time being though, this family will have to find another place to live.
