(Collierville, TN April 30, 2009 9:33 PM) -- Mayor A C Wharton confirms there is a probable case of H1N1 swine flu in Shelby County. The patient is a 12-year-old who is a student at a private school located in Collierville.
Church Of The Incarnation Catholic School in Collierville had parents pick their students up Thursday morning. The school will be closed for at least seven days as recommended by the CDC.
The child was tested at St. Jude and those results have been sent to the state and to the Centers For Disease Control.
We caught up with parents and students from Incarnation at a little league baseball game in Collierville Thursday night. The students were extremely calm after going through a day where their school was at the center of media coverage concerning the virus. "They've got it under control," said one student. "It's a good school."
We asked another Incarnation student how she felt about having seven days off. "It's good, but we have to make it up," she said. She told us she plans on getting some big school projects done during her time off from the classroom.
Authorities tell us their classmate is responding well to anti-viral medication.
