Is Your Television Ready For Friday's Switch from Analog To Digital?
Fast Facts:
Digitial TV Transition Is Friday FCC holds seminars in Memphis Seniors citizens receive last minute assistance
(Memphis 06/09/2009) At the Wesley Senior Ministries Graceland Gardens, the television here is tuned to WREG's The Young and The Restless, but these seniors aren't here to just check out the soaps.

They want to make sure there is no drama when it comes to their televisions being ready for Friday's big switch to digital tv.

To help ease concern and confusion, the Federal Communications Commission is holding seminars in Memphis to make sure televisions are digital ready. Consumers who use an antenna to get free, over-the-air programming could lose their television signals friday.

Katherine Power is an FCC Digital TV Coordinator in town to help with the transition. Power said, "All the broadcasters have been running your PSA's and crawls. We like to think everyone knows about it. It's whether they've taken the extra steps to be prepared."

That's why the FCC is giving these seniors such as Sophia Brooks the hook up on how how to connect converter boxes to televisions and how to get coupons for them.

Brooks said, "I learned you can get another converter box coupons if yours had expired and that had happened to me."

But some seniors say lessons learned at this seminar have them ready for the switch to digital TV.

James Williams says he's excited about the change. Williams said, "Yeah, and it makes the picture better."

Others such as Donna Brooks say they're ready to make the connection into the digital age. Brooks said, "Well, between my husband, myself and my nephew, one of us is going to be able to hook it up. The book and stuff the lady gave us explains it pretty good.
