FAST FACTS:
(West Memphis, AR 10/30/2009) A West Memphis mother is pleading with the public tonight to turn her daughters in. Not just for their sake, but for the sake of everyone else.
Cassandra Stevenson believes the four young girls who ran away together October 21 may be on a crime spree and won't stop until they're caught.
She says she's tried everything to discipline her daughters.
"I whup them, put them on punishment, as soon as I turn my back, they're gone," she said.
Her daughters 14-year-old Anieya and 13-year-old Shyanne Stevenson ran away 9 days ago. Police say they left home with two other teens, Jasmine Cooper and Patricia Garrett.
"In this case there's four girls together who've been gone for about a week," said Det. Jimmy Turnbow of the West Memphis Police Dept. "That tells me somebody's helping them out in some way."
"They're caught up with the wrong people," said Stevenson.
She believes they may have stolen a car and skipped town. She wants them caught before they might victimize anyone else.
"If they're robbing people and doing whatever, I apologize to those people for my kids," she said. "I want them to turn themselves in and come home."
She says her daughter's haven't always been a handful. She says Aneiya does well in school and her sister excels on the basketball court. So much potential she fears may be thrown away.
We asked how she plans to break the cycle, she responded: "Put them in jail, let the system handle them. Let the system teach them discipline."
After all, she says, the system steered her in the right direction.
"I was out on the street , hustling and doing what I had to do, now I'm paying for it. They say you reap what you sow," she said.
Stevenson hopes to break the cycle of trouble with her kids now, before its too late.
"I wish someone would do the right thing and turn them in because they're going to get hurt, they're running the wrong path," she said.
The girls parents believe they may be somewhere in Memphis, possibly Orange Mound. If you've seen them, call Crittenden County Crimestoppers (870) 732-4444.
