FAST FACTS:
(Tipton County 8/7/2008) New information tonight about the man deputies say took them on a 20-mile-long high- speed chase through Tipton County.
Deputies say they were chasing 20-year-old Anthony Delauro Thursday afternoon after he randomly picked out his rape victim at a Walmart parking lot, attacked her in a remote field, then dumped her off at a church.
"He did not know her, it was a stranger attack," said Chief Donna Turner of the Tipton County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies say he forced a 25-year-old woman into her car at gunpoint in broad daylight, and then drove her to a remote area of Drummonds called Duvall Landing.
"He drove down that area in a secluded place, stopped the vehicle, sexually assaulted her, took her cell phone, money and car," said Chief Turner.
Investigators say he left her at a nearby church, where she called for help. Deputies in the area spotted the woman's vehicle and chased Delauro for 20 miles, through narrow roads, even through a soybean field.
Court papers state he ran multiple stop signs and even tried to ram deputies' squad cars.
"There was one civilian vehicle that was struck, there were no injuries in that accident," said Chief Turner.
And strangely enough, Delauro eventually led investigators right back to the same road where they say he raped the victim. Once the chase was over, investigators say Delauro got out of the car and tried to attack one of the deputies.
After a short scuffle, he was detained. That's when he stated "there was a bomb in the vehicle."
It's unclear what may have prompted the 20-year-old to go on a violent crime spree. Up until now, his record was completely clean.
Authorities credit the alleged victim's quick thinking and attention to detail. Because of her, they say this accused rapist is off the streets.
Delauro faces a long list of charges. Everything from Aggravated Rape to Assaulting a Police Officer, and that's just in Tipton County. Because the victim was kidnapped in Millington, he'll face charges there as well.
