  • Intruder breaks in, baby sitter calls 911
  • Parents upset, saying it took 45 minutes for deputies to respond

(Tipton County, Tennessee 7/3/2009) - A Tipton County home became the latest scene of a break in Wednesday. A young baby sitter and two young kids were inside and what happened has some parents furious.

"I looked out the window and could see his car right there." says the 14 year old baby sitter, who doesn't want to be identified.

While babysitting a 5 and 10 year old, she got an unexpected visitor, a man trying to break into the house.

"I was just really scared, hoping he wasn't going to try to do anything to us. He had a crow bar and everything." says the baby sitter.

She took the kids to hide in a bedroom and called relatives.

"She says help me Mindy. He's coming, he's coming. He's found us and she hung up the phone." says Mindy Parish, the baby sitter's adult cousin.

The baby sitter also called 911.

"They told me there were several cops on the way and a detective." she says.

But the intruder was inside.

"He pushed the door open and saw us. The kids started screaming, dogs barking and ran after him. Then he ran out of the house." says the baby sitter.

Relatives arrived, but say it was 45 minutes before the sheriff's department got there.

The intruder was gone. "It took them from 12:34pm when she made the call to after 1:15pm, 45 minutes to get to the home. That's unacceptable to me." says the mother of the baby sitter.

The parents heard it was a mix up in Fayette and Tipton County jurisdiction.

The kids are ok, but their parents are angry.

"What if somebody had gotten hurt. What if the kids were missing or raped?" says Ashleigh Brown, mother to two of the girls.

"It's my house and it's jeopardized my kids feeling safe in their home." says Brown.

Tipton County 911 officials tell us they are investigating what happened and whether there was a break down in 911 Communications.
