(Memphis 9/18/2009) "That feels really really good, especially for the unemployed," said Vanessa Davis.

She is just one of many MLGW paying bills downtown. And she is thrilled about the news. A drop in natural gas rates couldn't have come at a better time

MLGW numbers shows the steady decline of rates over the past several months. That is a significant change from over $6 per unit to now at 3.50 per unit (MMBTU). It was as low as 2.50 earlier this month, which is the lowest rate since 2002. Since we are knocking at fall's door, the outlook couldn't be more optimistic.

"We don't know if it will continue through out the winter month, but it's a good indicator that it probably will," said Chris Stanley from MLGW.

Those are rates half of what they were last year and its hitting consumers where it counts. The low prices are blamed on an over supply in the US. MLGW says monitoring how much gas you use, is the only way you will see reflected on your bill.

"We got to conserve even though we know the gas prices are going to be on a lower trend, please conserve," added Stanley.

Experts say enjoy it while it last, they expect to see rates level out at the beginning of next year.
