(Martin, TN 9/2/2009) Police in Martin, TN have arrested Bruce Tuck in connection to a series of rapes.
Tuck was arrested live on News Channel 3 at a home in Gleason, TN. A Nissan Titan truck registered to Tuck has been towed away by police.
Stephanie Scurlock was reporting live when Tuck was arrested on camera then minutes later he was put onto a stretcher and taken to the hospital.
There are reports Tuck may have a relative who works at UT Martin and an ex-wife who lives in Cordova. Both are areas where rapes have taken place.
The rapist has been deemed the "Big bellied rapist" due to his larger size. No charges have been filed.
Since June, two women were attacked in Martin, one woman in Memphis and one woman in Cordova.
A third assault on a woman in Martin was reported on Sunday.
Bruce Tuck, 35, served as a volunteer from September 7, 1998 until April 5, 2004. Tuck passed a criminal background check before being trained as a rescue volunteer. In a resignation letter Tuck indicated he left the bureau to be a reserve officer with another local law enforcement agency.
During Tuck's 6 years of service as a volunteer, he received only one reprimand on March 4, 2005 for "Compliance With Regulations" for not following the chain of command.
Tuck is a former volunteer for the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.
Steve Shular with the Sheriff's Office told us, "Shelby County Sheriff's Office detectives have worked jointly with the Martin Police Department, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Weakley County Sheriff's Office and the Memphis Police Department during the investigation which culminated with Tuck's arrest today. Detectives say he could be linked to other sexual assaults in Martin, Memphis and Shelby County."
