FAST FACTS:
(Southaven, MS/November 19, 2009) As family and friends anxiously await her arrival at Desoto Honda of Southaven, they know that 14 year old Mary Jo Dietsch has one simple wish in life and that wish involves an apple, but not just any kind of apple.
Dietsch said, "It's another apple. what kind of apple? a big apple. (CROWD) Mary Jo, you're going to the Big Apple and to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (cheers)"
The cheers are because Mary Jo's dream will soon come true in New York City. Her wish and several gifts are thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Desoto Honda.
For the past eight years Mary Jo has been battling cancer. She's had a total of 60 rounds of chemotherapy. Her father, Dan Dietsch, says she recently has suffered a stroke which has left her blind and she is doing physical therapy to regain the use of her left arm.
Dan Dietsch said, "We are so excited for her. She has experienced some severe challenges this last year and really over the course of her lifetime."
Despite everything she's been through, Mary Jo has never let her disabilities get her down and she manages to inspire others such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Ryan Taylor is with DeSoto Honda. He says Mary Jo and Make-A-Wish motive others to get involved.
Taylor said, "Make-A-Wish is such a great organization that really gives back to the community and with society the way it is now that's what we need to be doing."
In this case, they're helping a young girl fulfill her dreams.
Dan Dietsch said, "It just fills you with that hope that there is good in people."
Mary Jo and her family leave for New York Tuesday. They'll visit the American Girl Store, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Broadway production of the Lion King and Saturday go shopping for toys.
