FAST FACTS:
(Memphis 9/29/2009) Business was going great for Los Compadres Mexican restaurant. That is, until owners of the restaurant learned the owners of their building sold it. Los Compadres had 30 days to get out.
"We weren't prepared for that here, we were planning on staying here a long time," said owner Roberto Ferie. "It makes us really sad."
Ferie and co-owner Pablo Lara opened up shop 5 and a-half years ago. Unlike other restaurants in this sluggish economy, they say business has been especially strong here the past 12 months.
"We didn't expect any of this to happen," said Ferie.
They tried to buy the building themselves, but it was sold to a man out of Texas. Ferie was disappointed. Not only for himself, but for his customers.
Fortunately, Los Compadres will serve more margaritas soon. Ferie found a new location for his restaurant, just down the road at the 3200 block of Poplar. He's optimistic. He believes his customers will follow him.
He expects to re-open at the new spot in about a month.
