FAST FACTS:
(Memphis 7/7/2009) A former pro wrestler who's created a lot of controversy both inside and outside the wrestling ring says he may be ready to make headlines again.
Jerry 'The King' Lawler is set to make a big announcement tomorrow morning and there's a lot of speculation he may announce plans to run for Memphis Mayor.
"Memphis is looked on around the country as a joke, our city government is a laughing stock," he said during an interview Tuesday afternoon.
He wouldn't commit to getting into the political ring yet, but he did lay out plenty of reasons why the match-up this time around could be different.
"It's gonna be a short time [of campaigning], getting your name out there in media will be a factor in this election," he said.
In 1999, Lawler ran one of the most unusual campaigns in Memphis history. He even used fellow professional wrestler "The Rock" to pick up a few votes.
But in the end, he came in third. Lawler says he learned valuable lessons from that campaign. Since then, he's sought out advice from fellow wrestler and former Minnesota Governor -- Jesse Ventura.
"I said, 'What did you have to do?' He said, 'You find yourself being a figurehead, he said, 'You're responsible for appointing people to do things and hiring people to do things,''" said Lawler.
So will he join the already crowded list of candidates eager to take over city hall?
