FAST FACTS:
(Memphis 9/21/2009) Lawyers say a lot about nothing.
They can be friendly, heck they can be downright chatty, and talk to you for hour after hour, and when they leave, you realize that they didn't really tell you a thing. Christie Sullivan is an attorney that represents mayoral candidate Jerry Lawler. As far as them taking legal action to stop the News Channel 3 debate for this weekend, Sullivan said, "We are investigating all options, but aren't ready to take any action."
Jerry Lawler is a bit more direct. He has hired Sullivan and wants an injunction, wants the debate to stop until they let him in, "I wouldn't be hiring an attorney to fight the Channel 3 decision unless I was very serious," Lawler said. "If I weren't serious I would just take it as it comes."
Lawler isn't the only candidate upset. Wanda Halbert has already stated through an e-mail that she intended to explore the possibility of legal action. Halbert refused to talk with us this time.
The Mason Dixon poll that some of them are upset about was commissioned by WREG and the Commercial Appeal. It gave A C Wharton the top spot with 45 percent of the vote, Carol Chumney second with 11%, Myron Lowery had 10% and Charles Carpenter wrapped up the top four with a total of 5% of the vote. They will be in the Saturday, September 26th debate on News Channel 3 at 7:00pm.
- Top 4 finishers in Mason Dixon Poll will be in debate
- All candidates were informed only top 4 would be included
- Lawler claims poll is wrong and will keep voters from voting
