FAST FACTS:
(Horn Lake, MS 10/28/2009) 64-year-old Charlie Rivers delivered some "rough justice" Tuesday.
Police say a crook recently stole some lawn equipment from his neighbor's house on Alden Lake Road.
Rivers remembered the suspect and vehicle description. He spotted a suspicious vehicle that matched that description casing the neighborhood Tuesday afternoon, so he left his garage door open. Sure enough, he says the crook drove up and parked.
Rivers was hiding in his van, armed with a crowbar. He waited until the suspect walked out of his garage with a radio and a can of WD-40 in his hand, before he attacked him.
"This here is the correction bar, it works in all cases," he told WREG, motioning to the crowbar in his hands.
"I said, 'I'm gonna kill you,'" he repeated before he smacked him with it.
"If I'd have been ten years younger, they would've found him laying in the street right there, right there on the ground, I would've corrected him for life," he said.
The 64-year-old retired father of three chased the burglar right back down the driveway.
"He could run fast," said Rivers. "But when he tried to jump in the car, Pow! Right into the back here. Pow! Right through the window here! He's probably waking up with a headache this morning."
You can see glass from the shattered window scattered on the ground.
The wounded thief some how managed to speed off in his white 1990s model Dodge Pickup. But he left empty-handed.
Rivers dared him to set foot in this neighborhood again.
"He came to the right house at the right time because I'm the right guy to take care of him," said Rivers.
"They should send all the burglars to my house," he added. "There wouldn't be any crime in my area, I'd correct all of them," he said.
Unfortunately, the crook is still out there. Police describe the vehicle as a white Dodge pickup with a broken window and missing antenna. The suspect is described as a tall thin white male in his 30s, dressed in khaki pants and a light colored jacket.
