(Memphis 8/3/2009) Today, Memphis City Council woman Wanda Halbert became the latest candidate to enter the special election for mayor.
Halbert, a first term council member, presented a core platform for her candidacy which includes a focus on government efficiency and economic growth.
So far, nearly a dozen people have said they plan to run for mayor.
The deadline for candidates to file is September 17.
The special election will be October 27.
The winning candidate will serve the rest of Willie Herenton's term through 2011.
