FAST FACTS:
(Memphis 7/21/2009) An abandoned home on LaClede Street is where Antonio Burks found trouble.
Neighbors say men hang out in the back yard.
We found plenty of empty bottles and dice all over.
Friends say Antonio had only stopped by when robbers showed up with guns.
"They had their pants, money and all that stuff in their hands and they pulled off and ran to the car with their guns and stuff." says LaQuita Toney, a neighbor.
Antonio was shot in the leg. His status as a former player with the Uof M and the Memphis Grizzlies didn't seemed to matter to the robbers.
"I really don't think they cared. How do you not know that was Antonio. How do you not know. It's common sense. I don't think they cared." says Toney.
But a lot of people do care about Antonio.
From an on the road recruiting trip, former Tigers Coach John Calipari says he is getting hourly updates.
"Trying to plan on when I can get in their within the next day or so, get into Memphis, I 'm in Vegas right now, get in there to see Antonio. I've been praying for him and just thinking about him." says Calipari.
Coach Cal says Antonio is like a son, who overcame the odds.
He become conference player of the year with the Tigers and played on two NBA teams and in Europe.
"Hopefully this is not going to hurt his career. Hopefully he goes through this and realizes you have to be conscious where you hang your hat and where you move." says Calipari
Many believe Antonio was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
It's something Coach Calipari says he always warned his players, be careful where you go.
Everyone believes Antonio will be o.k., but the next 48 hours are the key.
