Friday Night:
Bartlett: Fireworks Extravaganza from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Bobby K. Flaherty Municipal Center, U.S. 70 and Appling. Live music by the Bartlett Community Concert Band followed by a performance by Christian music artist John Angotti. The night will end with fireworks.
Collierville: 24th annual Independence Day Celebration, at H.W. Cox Jr. Park, 440 W. Powell Road. Festivities kick off at 6 p.m. with fireworks at 9:30 p.m. 10,000 glow stick flags will be handed out by the town. Shuttle service between Collierville High School and the park from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m.
Lakeland: Red, White & You! celebration starts at 7 p.m. at City Hall Park, 10001 U.S. 70. Participants will enjoy games, a "Best Patriotic Dress" contest, and a 3-D movie presented at dusk. (3-D glasses will be available for the first 100 participants.)
Millington: The Flag City Freedom Celebration will be hosted at Navy Lake, starting at 5 p.m. The Navy Band will provide the entertainment. Food and beverage concessions will be available. No alcohol will be sold.
Saturday:
Arlington: Fourth of July Celebration, 10 a.m. at Hughes-College Hill Park, 5980 Chester St. Cordova: The Community Center's annual Independence Day celebration and Fourth of July Parade begins with the parade lineup at 9 a.m. Starting point for the parade will be at the Cordova Community Center, 1017 Sanga Road. Cash prizes will be awarded.
Germantown: The Independence Day celebration will be at Municipal Park. Activities begin at 5 p.m. The fireworks show begins at 9:10 p.m. Lakeland: The 13th annual July Fourth Children's Parade in Windward Slopes starts at 10 a.m. Children (and parents) and their decorated wheeled toys should line up starting at 9677 Cutter Lane. Prizes will be awarded.
Memphis -- Downtown: Red, White and Blues Celebration begins at 5 p.m. and will be staged in Beale Street's W.C. Handy Park. Music will be provided by local rapper Muck Sticky and others. At 9:30 p.m., fireworks will erupt over Downtown's Tom Lee Park.
Memphis -- Downtown: The "4th of July Bash" featuring After 7, Eric Benet, and Joe Johnson Band. 8 p.m. at The Peabody, 149 Union. Also featuring keyboardist and composer Alex Bugnon. Tickets: $46, $51, $53, $57, $63 (available at Pop Tunes Record Shops), and online at tix.com. Call 753-5573.
Memphis -- Downtown: Soul of America, a soul music revue with an all-Memphis cast -- Don Valentine and the Hollywood Allstars, Willie Covington, Tonya Dyson, Nate Dogg and Joyce Henderson, with DJ The Hookup spinning classic and rare 45s. 10 p.m.-2 a.m. at Stop 345 (Madison at Danny Thomas). Memphis -- Midtown: "Memphis Brothers Band 4th of July Jam & Blues Barbeque" at Neil's, 1835 Madison. Tickets: $5 at the door. The Memphis Brothers Band is a conceptual band featuring Robert Johnson (lead guitar), Eric Hughes (vocals), Brad Webb (guitar), Kinley Wolf (bass), Christopher Patrick Bounds (drums), and special guest Jay Gaunt (blues harp). Memphis -- Aurora Circle-Mimosa: 60th annual Fourth of July Parade starts at 9 a.m. at Aurora Circle. The residents tout this as the oldest neighborhood parade in Memphis.
Memphis -- Central Gardens: Registration for the annual Fourth of July parade starts at 9:15 a.m. and the parade will begin at 10 on Carr Avenue.
Mississippi -- Jacinto: 2009 marks the 30th annual July Fourth Festival at the Jacinto Courthouse. Opening ceremony at 9 a.m.; music at 9:30; tour of courthouse 10:30; American Indians dance 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.; political speeches 11:30 a.m.; more music and tour of courthouse at 1 p.m.; Entertainment also includes bluegrass and gospel music; plus arts/crafts, antique car show, food booths. Mississippi -- Robinsonville: Universal Records South recording artist Phil Vassar celebrates the Fourth of July with a special show at 8 p.m. Millennium Theatre at Gold Strike Casino Resort. Munford: "Celebrate Independence" will be at City Park on College Street. Starting at 7:30 p.m., the Navy Band will perform. A spectacular fireworks display will be the grand finale.
