(MEMPHIS June 3, 2009 3:49 PM) -- More debate over the troubled Rape Crisis Center is expected at a budget hearing tonight at Memphis City Hall.

The center has been under scrutiny since victims were turned away because of staffing problems.

Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton insisted yesterday, as long as he's mayor, the center will stay a part of Memphis City Government , decision final. Some council members think Shelby County should take over.

Councilman Jim Strickland plans to make a motion at the budget meeting to withdraw funding from the center and turn it over to the county.

The debate should be interesting because other council members have already publicly objected to that idea.

Also at tonight's meeting, the division directors are expected to attend. Council members have been waiting to directly question them about the problems at the center.
