There is speculation U of M basketball coach John Calipari is considering an offer to move to the University of Kentucky. What do you think?
FAST FACTS:
(Memphis 3/30/2009) University of Memphis Athletic Director R.C. Johnson confirms he has given University of Kentucky officials permission to speak with John Calipari about a job there.
Also, former WREG TV sports Director George Lapides says Johnson said Calipari is still a U of M coach but asked if he will be at the end of the day, Johnson reportedly replied "No".
Numerous media sources are reporting U of M Tiger coach John Calipari might be headed to the bluegrass state.
Our media partner, the Commercial Appeal, reports Calipari met with his players Monday morning and gave them the impression that he is leaving.
We know Calipari met with University of Kentucky officials Sunday, only days after the Tigers were beaten in the NCAA tournament.
We also know Calipari is scheduled to meet with U of M officials later today.
What we do not know is whether Calipari is seriously considering leaving behind a very loyal fan base.
Calipari signed a five year contract in 2008 but Kentucky can buy out the contract.

Johnson Grants Permission For Kentucky Contact

University of Memphis Athletic Director R.C. Johnson said today that he has been contacted by Kentucky AD Mitch Barnhardt and that he has granted Kentucky permission to confer with Tiger head basketball coach John Calipari as to the Wildcats head coaching position.
"We have given Kentucky permission to talk with John (Calipari) about their position," Johnson stated. "However, I will tell you that we are elated with the job John has done as our head coach and we will do everything in our power to retain his services at Memphis."
Johnson indicated that he will have no further statement on the matter until there is something more to report.
