FAST FACTS:
(Memphis 7/20/2009) An 88-year-old landlord is now packing heat to pick up his tenants checks.
This after he was attacked by two teens at one of his rental properties. It happened in broad daylight at the 1600 block of Orr in North Memphis.
The victim, Don Manning, is covered in bruises. There's even a gash on his face. The 88-year-old landlord was just trying to put a "For Rent" sign in the window of his property when a group of teens attacked him.
"They pushed me down, one hit me here, the other grabbed my car keys, the other one got my billfold over here, got my money out of it," said Manning.
The World War II fighter pilot just had back surgery. He believes the teens targeted him because they noticed how much trouble he was having walking up the steps.
"I had grabbed that post for support and they saw my condition, couldn't do anything really," he said.
He says he got in one good lick before they had him on the ground, punching and kicking him .
"Just a bunch of kids on drugs," he said.
The crooks got away with about $300 in cash, as well as Manning's 1988 Ford Bronco.
His tenant told police she believes her sons may have been involved. But when we asked her, she denied knowing any of the suspects.
Manning doesn't hold any ill feelings towards her or the streets of his hometown. Even though in just the past 3 months, his East Memphis home was broken into, someone stole a gun out of his car and he was held up at a gas station.
He now carries a handgun with him.
"I've had properties for a long time, of course I'm a little more prepared now than I was," he said.
Police recovered Manning's stolen Ford Bronco. They are dusting it for fingerprints.
Jymareo Agnew, DOB 3-20-1991 and Julian Agnew, DOB 1-27-1990 have arrested and charged in connection with this robbery. A third suspect is currently being sought. He is described as a male black, 16 - 19 year old, 5'8.
