(Memphis 12/16/2011) The Mid-South is home to 200 new Unites States citizens. Victory University hosted a naturalization ceremony where the citizens were welcomed into our nation.  They new citizens come from 33 different countries, including: Cambodia, Lebanon, and Switzerland.

One by one, the 200 immigrants filed onto a stage telling everyone of their past. It's their future that brings them together.

"This is not a trivial understanding, but one that you have dedicated yourselves with a seriousness of purpose." said Dr. Sheryl Weems with Victory University.

The new citizens have been permanent residents of the U.S. for at least five years. They even had to prove they've mastered the English language.

"We are a country of people, created equal and we have a right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." said Dr. Weems,

They also had to pass a test on U.S history and politics.

But the history lessons dont stop here. President Barack Obama issued a charge to the new Americans, hoping they will etch their names into American history.

"I ask that you use your freeom and talents to contribute to the good of our nation and the world. Always remember that in America, no dream is impossible," said President Barack Obama via a video message.

You only have two chances to pass the naturalization test.

If you don't pass the first time, you can study for up to three months before you take it again.
