(Memphis 1/8/2010) - It's back to work in Beth Sansone's Collierville Elementary class, the day after winter weather closed school.
"All of my children came back today except for one and I am not sure why he is out." says Sansone.
The roads were clear, school was open and parents complied bundling up kids to walk in single degree temps.
"My mom made me put on a coat, hat, gloves. It was really cold." says 5th grader Katie Stroud.
"It was really cold. I walked really fast." says 4th grader Simon Minga.
On an average day, 25 of Collierville Elementary's 800 students are absent, and the principal says it was the same today.
"We prep the kids very well as we get into the cold season, making sure they have jackets, hats, mittens gloves. Our counselors do a good job of that. Even earlier this week, children they saw without mittens and hat, we made sure they had those." says Collierville Elementary's Principal Louise Claney.
Shelby County cancelled school Thursday because of icy roads, But officials say cold temps won't stop school.
So students bundle up and carry on.
"Two jackets and mittens, hat and some ear muff." says 1st grader Robson Whittaker.
"Get a jacket, my heaviest jacket, a scarf, glove and hat." says 4th grader Brette Weldy.
Memphis schools were open Thursday , but called off classes Friday, so students who walk or wait on the school bus wouldn't be out in the cold.
Thursday's city school attendance did take a hit from the weather.
The average 94%percent daily attendance for Memphis City Schools was 65.8% Thursday.
