FAST FACTS:
  • Memphis police not sure what caused S. Memphis man to be shot
  • Police say victim keeps changing story
  • Shooting happened in 1800 block of Cincinnati

(Memphis, 11/23/2009) "I was very shocked, we I get a phone call 5 o'clock in the morning, about my brother being shot, my thing was getting to the hospital."

Michael Hunt says this isn't how his family expected to start their holiday week.

"He's out of surgery he is doing well like i said it didn't hit any major organs, so he is blessed," added Hunt.

Police say they got a call to this home in the 1800 hundred block of Cincinnati around 12:45 Monday morning. When they got there they found 46 year old Reginald Hunt shot twice. Hunt told police that someone knocked at the door and he was struck when he went to answer.

"They said that someone had shot him through the door, that someone had shot him through in the stomach through the door," said neighbor Charles Flemings.

But police say they are having some trouble figuring out exactly what happened at the house.

Hunt's brother says he was once in the leg and once in the stomach. Police dusted for prints around the one gun shot in the door and could see the door appeared to be kicked in. However nothing was taken from the home.

Hunt was unemployed and living temporarily at the house with a roommate.

Now police and neighbors want to know is this is a random crime, or if Hunt was the intended target.

"I don't know if it was a robbery or what, but I just hate to see tragedy and stuff like that happen," added Fleming.

Family members say the victim was upgraded from critical to stable condition. He is now out of surgery and family members expect him to be okay
