FAST FACTS:
(Memphis 02/07/2010) A Memphis City Schools student says she was raped and it happened at the hands of a Memphis police officer.
The Memphis Police Department confirm the officer and the alleged incident are all being investigated.
A Fairley High School female student says she was forcibly raped. She reported what happened to Memphis police officers who are assigned to patrol her school. The person she is accusing is one of their fellow officers. This parent and assistant pastor at the church across the street from Fairley High is shocked.
"I guess so much that I've seen on TV here lately, I shouldn't be shocked but it seems as though I am shocked," said Asst. Pastor Michael Johnson, St. Matthew Baptist.
The Memphis police officer at the center of the rape allegation also works as a Memphis City Schools officer. It's not known if Fairley High is one of the schools he patrols.
According to Memphis police the reported rape did not happen at Fairley High School but away from school campus.
A grandmother who lives across the street from the school says if it happened it doesn't matter whether it was on or off campus. It was wrong.
Charlie Mae Washington said, "A child is a child and he's an officer. He's supposed to protect them. They ain't supposed to have to watch out for the police."
The teen reported the rape last Friday but said she was attacked on an earlier date.
Memphis police say the investigation is active but no charges are yet filed. The Sex Crimes Bureau along with the bureau that investigates criminal wrong doing of officers is working on the case.
