(Bartlett, TN 12/7/2009) Some Bartlett Shriners are mourning the loss of one of their own killed over the weekend while participating in the city's annual Christmas parade.

49-year old Sam Leeper was injured when he fell off a dune buggy Saturday night. He died the next day at The MED.

The Al Chymia Shriners in Bartlett say they never imagined that a happy event like this could end so tragically for one of their members.

"We are just devastated," said Fred Sexton.

The Shriners say Leeper was sworn in as a Shriner just 3 hours before the parade.

They say the dune buggy was going in circles, no more than 3-5 miles an hour when Leeper fell off the back.

The Shriners say this was the first time their group has ever had to deal with anything like this before.

"All we know it's just one of the freak things. A Freak accident," said Sexton.

So far Bartlett Police have released few details about Leeper's injuries and say the accident is is still under investigation.
