Oakland, TN Officer Shot and Survives

(Memphis, 12/24/09)Oakland officer Joshua Smith pulled over an SUV along Highway 64 in Oakland overnight. We're told it had temporary tags that expired months ago. He was questioning the driver, when the passenger got out and tried to stab officer smith with a knife. Then the driver pulled out a revolver and fired one shot. The impact knocked down Officer Smith... but amazingly the bullet hit his badge.

The bullet then went off his vest and through his shirt... and Officer Smith walked away. "This officer was on his game that saved his life," said Oakland Police Chief Keith Hogwood. Officer Smith was taken to the hospital to be checked out...he's doing fine this morning. As for the suspects, they were last seen heading towards Memphis on Highway 64. They are driving a dark colored Chevy Suburban... With temporary tags that expired September Ninth of this year. Anyone who sees them is asked to call police.
