FAST FACTS:
  • One Memphis firefighter was injured when a North Memphis church went up in flames this morning
  • Now the young congregation is picking up the pieces and trying to figure out what is next
  • The fire broke out shortly after 8 this morning in the 700 block of North 7th street

(Memphis 6/29/2010) Pastor Stephen Brown had no idea what he was in for when he got the call about a fire at his church.

That was until he saw flames shooting from the roof of the building.

"It caused a few tears this morning but you know they were actually tears of joy just waiting to see what Gods going to do with the outcome of this situation," said Brown.

Fire crews were called to Light of Glory International Church shortly after 8 morning.

From the outside you could only see smoke at first, but the fire quickly spread, over taking the roof of the building.

"We just purchased the church and it was doing so well," added Brown.

Light of Glory International is a young church. The congregation started just two years ago. They've only been in the building for less than a year.

"We not going to let this fire stop us from giving god praise and thanks you know. Just a little set back, things pastors go through and deal with. I'm up for the task and challenge," said Brown.

Pastor Brown says he is not sure where his church will meet next. They even have services scheduled for this evening. But Brown says he won't cancel.

His members will be some where, some how praying for the church.

"I just feel like this is a sign that god is up to something very, very big for lighter glory," added Pastor Brown.

Pastor Brown says his church is insured.

One Memphis firefighter was taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion while fighting the fire, but is expected to be okay
