FAST FACTS:
(Memphis 12/3/2009) It almost sounds like an episode from television's Desperate Housewives.
This isn't Wisteria lane, but it is Grendle Place in Cordova. Police records show it was in a house on this street where 31-year-old Emily Zinkus allegedly had a sexual relationship with her neighbor's teenaged son. She's charged with aggravated statutory rape.
Hal Armstrong lives right next door to Zinkus. Armstrong says Zinkus and the mother of the teenager were very close friends and he's surprised by what allegedly happened. Armstrong said, "When we found out she was having an affair with her son it was really surprising."
An affidavit of complaint states the 17-year old confirmed that he and Zinkus were involved in a two year relationship. Zinkus reportedly invited the teen to her home on numerous occasions where their encounters took place during various times of the day. No one answered the door at the Zinkus home when we there, but her neighbors did.
Jones lives less than a block away. Jones said, "It's awful. It's awful. I just hadn't heard that and didn't know anything about it".
We do know that Zinkus served three days in jail and she was granted aone year probation. Zinkus is part of a pre-trial diversion program--if she completes it without any other violations, the case can be dismissed and her record expunged. Because this was considered consensual sex, Zinkus became eligible for the pre-trial diversion program.
The Shelby County District Attorney's Office says it couldn't comment on the case.
