(Memphis 3/24/2010) J.D. Sewell was let go this afternoon after 28-years with the Memphis Police Department.
As News Channel 3 first told you last month, Sewell was under investigation for obstruction of justice.
An internal affairs investigation revealed Sewell interfered with another officers criminal charge.
The police association is expected to release a statement tomorrow.
Memphis Police Released This Statement:
A hearing was held on March 24, 2010 at 1:00 PM relative to an Inspectional Service Bureau Investigation.
Patrol Officer, James Sewell violated Departmental Rule #101 Compliance with Regulations, Departmental Rule #104, Personal Conduct and Departmental Rule #304 Compromising Criminal Cases.
The facts were presented, and after careful consideration, DR-101 Compliance with Regulation, DR-104 Personal Conduct and DR-304 Compromising Criminal Cases were sustained and Officer Sewell's employment with the City of Memphis Police Service Division was terminated, order effective March 24, 2010.
