FAST FACTS:
(Memphis 1/20/2010) The head of the Memphis Police Association is no longer qualified to serve and protect. J.D. Sewell has been relieved of his duties. He's under investigation for obstruction of justice.
Sewell says the investigation is top brass' latest attempt to intimidate him.
"I think the police administration is using this as an opportunity to retaliate against me, harass me and intimidate me. "
Director Larry Godwin issued a statement saying, "He is being treated no different than any other officer."
Sewell believes he has a target on his back and says this isn't the first time the department has investigated him for duties related to his job as the head of the police union.
Last year he says he was investigated after voicing officer's concerns to city leaders.
"I speak up when I see wasting of tax money, low morale or officers being treated wrong," explained Sewell. "That is my job. They are not going to silence me. I'm going to speak out. "
Director Godwin says Sewell's case is still under investigation. He added, "JD Sewell is a police officer and must adhere to and be held accountable to the policies and procedures of the Memphis Police Department."
