It comes weeks after the city's board of aldermen called for Davis to leave office amid allegations he misspent tax dollars for personal benefit.

During his brief, two-minute statement to reporters, Davis avoided mentioning many of the allegations he now faces.

Instead, the mayor focused on claims cited by aldermen that he lied to them.

Greg Davis says aldermen got it all wrong when he admitted last month to deceiving them.

Davis insisted it had nothing to do with his actions as mayor, only his sexuality.

"It deeply hurts that some have taken that very personal struggle and manipulated it and twisted it maliciously into something that was never intended," Davis told reporters Monday.

With that, the mayor walked out of city hall without taking questions. After allegations the mayor's friends cashed in on land deals at the expense of taxpayers, there are more questions than ever.
