Wharton To Announce New CAO

(Memphis 12/1/2009) News Channel 3 has learned that the next Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Memphis will be George Little.

Little is currently the Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Corrections, and at one time was in charge of the Shelby County Penal Farm.

Sources say Little could be named to the position sometime this week.

We have also learned that Mayor Wharton might be naming other people that he wants has department directors. Wharton, who was elected as Mayor on October 15th, said he was going to analyze city operations and the people in charge of departments before he decided on whether to make changes. He has already told News Channel 3 Watchdog Mike Matthews that he is very close to hiring a new head of the troubled Memphis Animal Shelter.

Little would replace current Chief Administrative Officer and former City Councilman Jack Sammons, who was appointed to the job this summer by former interim Mayor Myron Lowery.

A spokeswoman for Mayor Wharton would not confirm that Little will be named to the position.
