"I saw smoke and Joe's house was on fire." said the boy.

He told his Dad, who wondered why someone would have smoke coming out of the chimney in the middle of summer. "It was kinda weird, about one hundred degrees outside and to have a fire and it had black smoke out of the chimney which was odd." said father Preston Turner.

The kitchen of the house next door, belonging to Joe and Carol Cacsio was on fire, and it threatened the whole house.

Fortunately nobody was home at the Cascio house, so nobody was hurt, but the damage here will take months to repair.

Oxford firefighters arrived within minutes and were able to put out the flames quickly.

"I kept thinking the whole time I saw the fire trucks that if it had not been for him calling attention to it the whole house would have gone to the ground and we're so proud of him." said Mr. Turner.

And so where the neighbors who still have a house thanks to John Preston Turner.

They gave John Preston a new name.

"I was their little angel." said young John Preston.

That little angel will get an award Thursday afternoon at 4pm from the Oxford Fire Chief.
