(East Memphis 11/18/2009) Two women looking for a five finger discount made off with some pretty pricy items from King's Furs and Fine Jewelry in Laurelwood Shopping center.

One woman made off with a diamond ring worth $11,000. Surveillance video shows her buddy check out a price tag on an $1800 dollar fur coat before boosting it.

At one point you can see her bend over and according to police records she "removed the fur from the rack and placed it under her skirt."

"Maybe it's not as crazy as I thought," laughed Richard Wheeler who frequents the area. "They actually got away with it."

Investigators say the two women worked together during the scam, posing as customers.

A woman wearing a red shirt and yellow pants asked the clerk to see the diamond ring. While the ring was out, the other woman asked the employee about the fur coats.

That provided a diversion for her friend to stash the diamond ring in her purse. When the diamond thief told the clerk she needed to grab some money, the other woman stole the fur coat by putting it under her skirt.

"People now days are lazy they don't want to do nothing," said shopper Sonny King.

The crooks calmly made their way out of the store after patiently waiting to be buzzed out.

"I know times are tough but that's certainly no way to get ahead," says Wheeler. "But people are desperate and maybe see no way out."
