FAST FACTS:
(Memphis 11/13/2009) On security tape, they look the perfect couple.
Both are well-dressed and police say they spent an hour looking at rings inside an east Memphis jewelry store.
But, what happened when the jeweler turned his back has 33-year-old Thomas Heath Hargett, and his wife Dana, facing theft charges.
Major Mike Ryall is with the Memphis Police Department, "The average citizen would be surprised at how many places he or she is being recorded by video throughout the course of their day-to-day routine."
Once the video hit the news, cops say the couple's gig was up.
Major Ryall says woman, in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi saw the clip and picked up the phone, "The diamond broker company actually got a call from the mother of the suspect stating that she recognized the her son as being the one that took the item."
A son turned-in by his own mother!
Police say she even returned the undamaged gold and diamond ring to the store last weekend.
So why would she do it?
Ryall is sure, but says it could be because this may not be the end of Hargett's problems, "This isn't a one-shot deal. There have been some issues in another state that the male suspect has been involved in, even with own family. It's my understanding he was involved in theft where he was stealing some vital things from his own family's business in Mississippi."
