(Memphis 11/08/2009) - Members of the Church of God In Christ gather for their final morning Sunday service at the FedEx Forum. The church's Holy Convocation is moving to St. Louis in 2010. They leave with kind words for the city they've called home for more than a century.

"We've enjoyed 102 years in the city of Memphis. Next year we'll be in another city but we'll always hold fond and precious memories," said Presiding Bishop Charles Blake, Church of God In Christ.

Blake speaks in the FedEx Forum for what could be the last time. He makes note of that before the estimated 18,000 convention goers that have gathered in the arena. Inside is only a portion of the saints in town for the event. Some had to listen by simulcast. It's one of the reasons they won't be back next year.

"Today we're in the Convention Center. We're in Mason Temple. We're in Bountiful Blessings but next year we'll all be together in one auditorium that will contain us all," said Blake.

Church leaders recommended moving the annual Holy Convocation to St. Louis. but Bishop Blake acknowledges Memphis' kindness.

"I want you to tip real good when you check out of the hotel. The people who move your luggage and baggage and assist you in various ways. Show your gratitude to them. As a matter of fact, let's clap our hands and praise God for the kindness that has been extended to us," said Blake, as convention goers applaud.

Church leaders say St. Louis not only offers a bigger arena but also a better lodging package for its membership.

"Of course I live in St. Louis. So, I am excited but Memphis has been great down through the years. I've come here for over 10 years and it's the Mecca for the Church of God in Christ," said Rev. Rodney Douglas, St. Louis native.

Elder Gilbert White of Newark, N.J. added, "I think it's going to be a wonderful experience moving from here to St. Louis following the leadership of our presiding bishop. We believe it is the move of God for us right now."

The Holy Convocation is moving but the bishop reminded membership several of COGIC's smaller gatherings will be in Memphis and members will still have a reason to return to the church's roots.

Today's morning service at the FedEx Forum marks the end of the convocation for most Church of God In Christ members. Members of the leadership will be here a few more days.
